Griswald...I Mean S...Family Christmas Tree

Any of you who know my husband know that D is a man of tradition and nostalgia. He loves the way things "used to be". Some 21 years ago when we were married, I was introduced to the "live tree". Christmas just wasn't Christmas without the live tree. So we began to have 2 trees each year...one artificial and one live. Well, as the years trotted along, and after 2 children, and just the busyness of life took its toll, for the last 2 or 3 years we have just settled for our artificial tree as our lone tree for the Christmas season.

On Thanksgiving day as we traveled from Grandmama and Grandaddy's house back to our humble abode, we had the discussion of the feasibility of having a live tree this year. Of course my ally against the idea was my sweet Ab. She didn't think it financially feasible to spend that much money on a tree and then throw it out in the woods. (That's my girl!) But Aa and D threw caution to the wind and said we should go for it. So after much discussion, we came to the conclusion that we would just go to our woods and pick out an old cedar tree and decorate with the big ol' lightbulb lights, popcorn, etc... D remembered his Christmas' at his Granny and Pop's house where they always had a cedar tree decorated with the big lights. The nostalgia and tradition was kicking in. So I agreed to their plan all the while thinking of the mess a scraggly ol' cedar tree would make in my house. But they caught me in a weak moment waxing a little nostalgic myself.

So today was the day we would go to the forest to pick out the tree. I could not help but giggle and smile all the while thinking about Clark Griswald picking out the Griswald Family Tree in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I will just post pictures from the actual procurement of the tree for now...decorations come later.
